Compare Baofeng UV-5R models

Most new hams will end up buying a Baofeng HT. The question is which one to buy. In this video, I compare the features, power, and costs of a bunch of members of the UV-5 family. In a previous video, I compared the send/receive of several HTs. The UV-5R did surprisingly well.

Would vidros on using the Xiegu x6100 help?

Hey folks!

I did a YouTube series on the Xiegu G-90 on https://youtube.com/@hamradionewbie\_kb5jrc?si=6xOMinXULC6zeFn2. Choosing the G-90 is a little ironic because I did all my learning on the Xiegu x6100. I haven't done a series on it. Would you be interested in a series on the x6100 controls and use?

Here is the link to the G-90 playlist. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPpU7MEqmAUtMOq9hmJirzMd5579rpKi4&si=Z-XobcwtJMgsH4TT

Thanks in advance.

And I am cross posting, so yes, you might see this multiple times.

Question about Type Acceptance and Ham licenses [serious]

Help me understand. I have a UHF/VHF ham radio. I assume it is Type Accepted for it. I also have GMRS, MURS, and FRS radios (Im lying, I dont have any FRS, but let's pretend I do).

Technologically, I could easily program the Ham radio to use the frequencies and power for GMRS and FRS bands. That would meet the intent of the rules, but not the letter of the rules because of Type acceptance. What is the purpose of the Type acceptance? What does it prevent, assuming i am licensed for the band?

It should b e obvious but I will state it clearly, i have no intention in violating the rules and I do not advocate for anyone else breaking them. I just want to learn the rationale, so serious answers and discussions, please.

Using a Yaesu FT-70DR keeps going FM when I want to go digital

I just got this Yaesu FT-70DR. I programmed it with my normal repeaters. It works fine. One of repeaters supports Fusion. It is also available in analog (I have it in memory). When I push the PTT, it goes analog. What am i doing wrong?

Here are my steps.

  1. Go into VFO

  2. Set the frequency

  3. Set AMS

  4. Set mode to DM

  5. Set F-RPT to the correct direction (RPT-)

  6. PTT and it goes FM

DroidStar for Android has no password field for AmComm

According to many sources, there should be a password field (in addition to the ones shown) for AmComm. Any ideas? It looks like I connect successfully to FD_AmComm_Dallas, but i see no traffic and I think it is the lack of a password. I hear no traffic. I can connect to Brandmeister.
