Advice for Duck, NC OBX surf fishing

I’m headed down to Duck, NC tomorrow for a week and plan on doing some surf fishing (Aug 15-22).

I’m planning on using a pompano rig and sand fleas / shrimp.

Anyone have some advice on what’s been biting this past week?

I look forward to this all year, so advice for an amateur is appreciated!

What’s your best theory?

Going through grandpa’s coin collection and came across this 1940 nickel with a punch mark. Any theories on what caused this? Grandpa said a German bullet, but we never believed him 🤣
