Prednisone really is the devils tic tac
I started having some finger joint pain and swelling (very odd and specific situation, if it doesn’t clear up I’ll get it looked at by a specialist because I think it’s autoimmune related) randomly one afternoon. Started having other mild roaming joint pain. I’ve had histamine issues in the past so the Urgent Care was torn between an odd injury or a histamine reaction. Got put on Prednisone for 20 mg 3x a day for 3 days, then 20 mg 2x a day for 3 days, then 20 mg 1x a day for three days. Currently on the first 20 mg 1x day
Shockingly, I never had the mood swings, but I felt hyper and really energetic for the first couple days. By the 3rd day though I started having pretty significant side effects. Teeth aches, nails got a little brittle, more joint aches and pains than before (in fact I’m sure I’ve somehow injured myself even more because of the steroids), flushing , bruising and random chills/sweats, random period bleeding/spotting, feeling bad/odd, huge trouble sleeping, rebound inflammation is mild but no joke, and on the 7th day now and honestly I’m convinced I would’ve done better not being on it at all or being on a shorter dose. It’s hardly helped my finger at all. Maybe taken some of the pain away but nothing else.
However… it has cleared up my skin (other than flushing/bruising). I am prone to cysts, acne, and eczema. It’s all cleared up over 90% and I look great! Hell I look sexy! At least it’s given me hope that once I get off this and start trying to figure out what’s up with my immune system, I can have clear skin! Those first few days I did feel really good, but now I just want off this crazy ride.
Edit: I messaged my Dr this morning and told them my side effects and that I'm not going to take the last two pills. My extreme lower back/legs have been hurting/swelling for the past couple days and I went down the reddit rabbit hole this morning and realized I would rather risk a sharp withdrawl than two more days of this. Crazy low chance of something bad happening (AVN you can prob guess) but I don't wanna risk it. I already feel a bit less swollen and a lot less hyper since missing my dose. My skin is even starting to not be sexy anymore.
