Hello! I recently acquired a Boston fern and was so sure there wouldn’t be a nest in it already. I took it down off the hanging hook and watered it heavily. Then I began removing dead fronds from it and caught sight of the birds nest hiding inside. I inspected the nest, it appeared to still be mostly dry, with only one tiny egg inside. I feel terrible, and I noticed daddy bird sitting on the power line nearby watching me. I quickly hung up the fern again and went inside. Dad bird is gone now and I don’t see any sign of either parent over an hour later. Should I wait until morning and see if they returned? What are the odds this incident made them abandon the nest? Thanks!
