Our Beloved Sissy
Thursday evening we lost our beloved Sissy girl. Originally from Georgia, we adopted her from a shelter in Brooklyn in 2022 when she was 13 years old. My mom was looking for a kitten, but we couldn't bring ourselves to leave her there. She was never scared to show off her tortitude, but also jumped up on us for cuddles. She always would start chasing after our legs if we walked past, and would demand treats nonstop.
She never showed any signs of aging or physical decay. She was running around, jumping, eating her food just fine. Thursday was no different. She started walking over me and making biscuits on me (ouch) at 5 am, like she always did. Then we spent the morning with her cuddled up to me and playing. I went to see a movie in the afternoon and was running around getting ready. She was using the scratching post before coming over for cuddles. When it was time to leave, I pet her head (which she swiped at my hand for) and I told her "I love you beautiful, be good."
I got home about four hours later. I really needed to use the restroom so I went and was curious why she didn't come over like she always did when I went to the restroom. Assuming she was taking a nap, I looked at her bed and didn't see her. I walked around until I saw her curled up and sleeping in her bed next to the couch. I started calling for her, but she didn't react. When I put my hand on her to tap her, she was stiff and cold. Immediately started calling my mom and boyfriend who rushed over to help.
What started as a normal day ended up being a nightmare, and there were no signs... if anyone could help with telling me what could have happened? She was eating and drinking perfectly fine and not slowing down in any way. I blame myself for leaving the house because she passed away alone and suddenly...
