Carbon fear?

I started riding again as an adult about 2 years ago. I bought myself a pawn shop 90s Trek and feel in love with cycling. Meeting new friends and many miles.

About 6 months ago I determined it wasn’t just a phase and I was ready to buy my first new bike. I did tons of looking around, looked at frame materials and got close to pulling the trigger so many times.

I had fallen in love with the straight top tube style of the 90s bike I had and saw that only saw on titanium bikes. Then came the prices. If I wanted a titanium bike I’d have to wait longer because they were out of my price range. I ended up with a carbon frame gravel bike that I really enjoy. The one problem is carbon fear. I fear that even if I take a small spill or clamp the upright bike carrier on the roof of my car too tight I’m going to destroy the bike I spent a lot of money on.

Do others feel this way about their carbon bikes? Am I overreacting? I’d like to know if this feeling has stopped anyone from getting a carbon bike or swapping to a metal option once you did.
