Weight gain after short-term steroids
Hi all. I’ve had some setbacks and frustration over the past month. Looking to see if others have experienced something similar and can give me some advice or hope for a turnaround soon.
About a month ago, I had an urgent health issue. Ended up needing to do a short-term stint of corticosteroids (prednisone, specifically) for two weeks. It was a moderate dose with a quick taper off and my last dose was May 23. I had actually just increased my Tz to 4.5mg from 4mg the same week this happened.
I have had a lot of success and was down almost 50 lbs. I have been on long-term steroids before but had hoped a short-term dose wouldn’t affect me too much. But I’ve gained back almost 10 lbs since the start of the steroids.
Even though it’s been two weeks since my last dose of steroids, I am still struggling with the weight gain. It’s not really dropping off and food noise is poking through. I know steroids can stay in your system for a bit but I was hoping the increased dose of Tz around the same time would kick in once I was off the steroids and get me back on track.
Anyone else had to do a short term round of steroids and struggle with some weight gain? How long did it take to get back on track? At what point should I consider increasing the dose again because it’s just not an effective dose versus the steroids still messing with me?
