Berries in Tahiti 🇵🇫
Went to the Taravao belvedere and was so happy to spot these growing on the side of the road 💖
Rubus rosifolius (we call it wild/tropical raspberry) is an introduced species that you can usually find higher/deeper in the valley/mountains during the colder months.
When I was younger, these were growing around a lot more. Spots that I remember them growing in are the Papeeno valley, the Taravao belvedere, the Moorea belvedere, the Mt Aorai hike trail (and the road getting to the belvedere just before the trail too). Whenever we would drive in those areas during the cold season me and my siblings would always keep a look out for them. They are considered a weed though so if the roads get cleaned out then we don’t get to see them.
They taste like store-bought raspberries though less flavourful and more tart. They are a bit of a novelty (raspberries in the tropics!) so it’s always fun to forage for them 🥰
