My query as in the title

We are living on rent - but want to transition to owning a flat. My core requirement that it be in central part of town or essentially in an area where it is not all concrete tech parks and wide highways - more of the inner city gully wala feeling. My experience thus far has been that this is more of a feature in Indiranagar Koramangala Jayanagar Jp nagar richmond town etc ( i am not a native so these are the areas that i recollect having this kind of localities, more areas might be there)

We are ok with resale flats if the building is not too old but how do i go about looking for this - should we employ a broker for this. What steps should we take
