I'm generally curious why none of the LLM models I've encountered have native time awareness.

They have date awareness and the mechanism for including an updated datetimestamp seems relatively trivial.

I had a thought that perhaps it was some deliberate thing to throttle self-agency.

Not being aware of time passing seems like it might have that effect.

I'm aware that this is how they're designed. I'm just curious as to why.
