Looking for a nice long-term print queue system

Hey y'all,

So I'm currently feeling printer-curious after living a simple, peaceful, printer-free lifestyle for years. I've been thinking of getting an inkjet printer for the sake of having nice-quality photo prints be an option- laser seems beautifully unproblematic, but I do yearn for glossy photo prints and sharp colors. I ditched the old inkjet I had because it was constantly clogging up but I think I might see a better way forward. I've heard about lots of people setting up an automatic utility to print a test page on a weekly/bi-weekly/etc basis to keep the ink flowing freely, but maybe there's a better way?

What I was thinking was that it'd be nice if I could queue up a bunch of stuff that I'd *like* printed but I'm not in any rush to have, like pictures to fill out a photo album, and have some sort of automated utility that, once weekly, picks out the top item from the queue and prints it.

Does this already exist? Does anyone here know of any utility that'd be capable of this, or is this a "you're gonna have to roll your own" situation? Or if it *doesn't* exist- any idea what sort of gotchas or hurdles might exist if I were to build my own?
