Making friends at Langara
Hello! I’m starting at Langara this upcoming fall semester and wanted to reach out here. I was actually born in Vancouver, but I've lived in Saskatchewan for the last 7ish years. Because of that, I’ve become strangers with a lot of the people I grew up with and lost touch with them so I feel like I’m starting from scratch.
I’m moving back to Vancouver in the next month or so. Leaving my friends here behind is a bit scary. I’m also an older student (I turn 31 in July). I’m studying mathematics and hoping to either switch into the bioinformatics program or the applied math biomathematics stream at SFU. I haven’t fully decided whether I want to stay at Langara for bioinformatics or transfer to SFU yet, so I just picked a versatile major for now.
I’ve had a lot of trouble making friends as an adult since I’m a bit shy in person and not particularly outgoing, so I’m never the type to just approach someone to talk. When I first moved to Saskatchewan, it took me a year or two before I finally found a group of people to spend time with.
I figured it would be interesting, and maybe a bit less awkward tbh, to see if there’s anyone else in this subreddit who is also an older student, or looking for friends after being out of school for a long time!
