Pelagica now also on Apple TV!

Hey there, it's the developer of Pelagica!

if you don't know Pelagica: It's a Web, Desktop and TV client for Jellyfin I've been building for almost a year now. Until now every platform Pelagica supports has been sharing the same core code with a slightly different interface or backend. This changed now with the official client for Apple TV! Since I mainly watch on my Apple TV, I obviously also want to use my own client on there too >:)

The client is a completely seperate codebase written in Swift with SwiftUI and uses VLCKit for the player so you can throw pretty much anything at it and it will be direct playing it.

The client already has all the features the Tizen and webOS client have with additional support for Profiles (which will come to Tizen and webOS too) and better scrubbing with trickplay.

Like the other TV clients, it respects your Pelagica config made in the web app and follows the same design with a few adjustments to fit the Apple TV aesthetic.

Of course as with the rest of Pelagica, it's completely open source licensed under GPL-3.0: https://github.com/PelagicaApp/pelagica-atv

You can download the app on the Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/pelagica/id6811079730

That's about it :)

Pelagica - Now with Seerr support and TV and Desktop clients!

Hey there, it's me Mario the developer of Pelagica!

Since my last post here, a lot has changed with Pelagica, so I wanted to give you an update. If you don't know Pelagica: Pelagica was (and among other things still is) an attempt to create a better web UI for Jellyfin. It aims to have a more modern user interface with better UX and being more customizable and faster than the standard Jellyfin web UI.

New platforms

But Pelagica now isn't purely for the web browser anymore. Pelagica now also has a dedicated app for Windows, macOS and Linux using wailsv3. It more or less uses the same interface as the web version of Pelagica, but packages it in a native app. This works similarly to an Electron app, but rather than bundling a full Chromium instance, it relies on the operating system's native web renderer, which keeps the package size smaller and memory usage lower compared to Electron.

Pelagica now also supports Samsung Tizen and LG webOS TVs! The TV version of Pelagica does not use the web interface, but one that is made specifically for TVs, accounting for spatial navigation and a bigger screen. It still uses the familiar, modern Pelagica design and respects your Pelagica configuration made on web or desktop. The TV version is still lacking some features compared to the web and desktop version though, including Seerr support.

Seerr integration

Another big addition is support for Seerr: As an admin, you can now configure a Seerr instance so your users can discover new content and request it right from Pelagica. You can configure home screen rows with Seerr content, you can see Recommended Seerr content from the item detail pages and you can have a "Known For" row on the person pages.

Live TV & Music support

Pelagica now also offers support for Live TV with a nice TV guide. I'm still looking for some feedback regarding that UI from people that actively use Live TV in Jellyfin.

Pelagica now also has a nice music player that matches a user's expectation for what a music player should actually look like. A very big thanks to nordwestt for really shaping the music player into what it is and their many contributions!

Other notable features

  • ASS subtitle support
  • Context menus all across the site
  • Item logo in player
  • Menu to identify items
  • Backdrop trailers
  • Forcing a specific Jellyfin server
  • Optional seasons view for series pages

That's it for my short (or not so short) update on the development of Pelagica :)

Thank you very much to all the people contributing, reporting bugs and providing feedback! I really love how this project has developed over the last 8 months and hope that it can grow even better :D

Pelagica 2.10 - A new UI design and a lot of new features!

For those of you who don't know Pelagica already: Pelagica is an alternative web frontend for Jellyfin. It aims to be more performant, have a modern more user-friendly UI and be more configurable. Pelagica offers features such as a built-in media bar, customizable home screen sections, a modern music player similar to Spotify or Apple Music and much more! We are aiming to completely replace the current Jellyfin web UI with a better experience, though we still have a long way to go! :D

Since my last post on here, there have been a lot of new features:

  • Trailer support — You can now watch external trailers directly from the movie/series page
  • Download support — Download movies, episodes, and subtitles straight from the UI
  • Multiple playback sources — Choose between available media sources before playing
  • Transcode vs. direct play negotiation — Pelagica now properly negotiates with Jellyfin whether to transcode or direct play
  • Dedicated music experience — New music page with redesigned album, artist, and playlist layouts, a favorites button, and song lyrics support
  • Music video & home video library support — These library types are now fully supported with their own layouts and image viewer
  • Studio pages — You can now have a home page section for studios and click on studios to view their media
  • Upcoming episodes — Series and season pages now show upcoming episodes
  • Redesigned item pages — Movie, series, season, episode, and box set pages have all been overhauled
  • New top bar navigation — A persistent top bar has been added across the app, replacing the old sidebar
  • New media bar animation + XL size option
  • Metadata editing — You can now edit item metadata directly from the UI
  • Custom sidebar (now top bar) links, app name, and logo — More branding/customization options for your instance
  • Swedish translation added
  • Overall performance improvements using lazy loaded pages and smaller thumbnail images

And of course there have been a lot of bug fixes ;)

If you want to try out Pelagica, you can use the Demo Server with limited functionality, or install it yourself using docker.

We now also have a dedicated channel in the JellyfinCommunity Discord server!
