Making new dirt- should I layer it as compost, cardboard, then wood chips or should I put the cardboard on the bottom?

I have a 1400 sq ft yard that I want to completely cover with a combination of cardboard, compost and wood chip mulch. My original plan was to put the compost on the bottom, then cardboard on top, then wood chips on top of that, but then I thought that the cardboard may not break down as fast as I would like in order for me to plant native grass and wildflower seeds next spring. I’m planning on putting down a half inch of both the compost and the wood chips.

I know it may be a little overkill to do all of those layers to suppress the seeds already present in the dirt, but I want to be thorough. Thanks in advance!

Edit: I forgot to add, but it’s pretty loose dirt that I will be covering- not a lot of structure/health to it, and not dark at all. I am in zone 7a, New Mexico high desert

Buying un-spun wool

Hello!
My friend and I are about to visit your beautiful country next week, and we are big into textile/fiber arts and spinning wool. We would love to visit a sheep farm, meet the sheep, and hopefully buy un-spun wool (but still processed, as in cleaned and carded, but we would also be down to do that ourselves if that’s the only option) that we can then take home and spin ourselves. Sheepworld outside Auckland seems to be our best bet, and the store on the website does say that you can buy already-spun wool yarn from the farm’s sheep, but that’s not quite what we were hoping for. I know it’s the winter season, so watching shearing shows may be limited, but that’s a-okay — we mostly just wanna but the wool.

In our hometown, if I wanted to buy un-spun wool, I go to a specific small specialty yarn store. If that’s our best bet to find NZ wool, then that sounds great! We are going to be primarily in the north island, but we have discussed hopping over to the south island too for other things.

Any recommendations or ideas welcome! Thank you in advance!
