Host just called re: problem with check-in for tomorrow [Chicago]

This is a "What would you do?" question.

We made this res back in January 2026. We chose it due to its proximity to a friend we're visiting, and the price was "Good" for the neighborhood.

The host just messaged on the platform and asked if we could talk on the phone. I put my number in the app, and I guess the app just makes a "Call Guest" button without disclosing my number.

The host was a nervous sounding young woman who wanted to let me know that the guest who was in there until today or yesterday was making cookies in the oven and a fire started. She said the apartment is okay, but they had to remove the rug, and the stove & cooktop aren't operable.

She offered the opportunity to cancel, except that there's nothing available for this weekend in Chicago that comes close to what we paid in January. I asked if there would be a partial refund if we choose to stay anyway, and she said no, best they could offer is an early check in at 2pm (It's usually 3pm), or we could just cancel with no penalty. I told her i was concerned about the apartment smelling like smoke, or there being ash/residue in the air. She said there were no problems like that.

I don't love that she went around the platform to contact me, for startters, but it's now 8:30pm, and we are getting on a plane in the morning at 8am, so I don't have much time.

What do you all think I should do, and should i document the phone call on the platform?

Neil Hold Your Fire tour photo

I found this in my childhood bedroom. It's printed on photo paper, so I guess I bought it at some point. I'm not sure if this is a widely available photo or a cool artifact.

Streaming simultaneously on 2 twitch channels

I am getting ready to do a collab music stream with a streamer whose communities don't have a ton of crossover.

We will be performing together as a duo in their studio, with their microphones, instruments etc. It will be their regular stream on their channel.

If I want to stream it to my channel, I can just call up her stream window capture w/audio - that's the logical way in my mind.

But I've seen streams where Twitch has both streamer tags/links, and it advertises on the platform that "These 2 streamers are streaming together". That's the part I don't understand.

Can someone help with this?

Should a "Serviced Apartment" include weekly cleaning? [Baltics]

We're in the second week of a 4-week stay in the Baltics. No complaints at all about the apartment, the location, etc. The hosts have been fine, everything is good except that the headline for the property says 'Serviced Apartment in {City name}'.

When I asked the host about cleaning, they said it's not included, and it will be 50 Euros per cleaning to clean this average-sized apartment, however many times we want. There was no "Cleaning fee" line on the invoice.

There is no doorman or human security, which we do not care about at all; the property and building are behind code-locked doors, and it's not a high-crime city.

We paid a bit over what we'd generally spend based on the fact that it was supposed to be a serviced apartment, with the assumption that there would be cleaning included, other than the beginning/end of the stay. I'm left wondering what exactly about this apartment does the host consider "Serviced"? Do I have this definition wrong?

I'm also wondering if it's something worth addressing with the host or with Airbnb, or just something I should mention in the review (without subtracting stars).

Funeral For A Friend in Valencia

We went back to the City of Arts and Sciences today for one more go at the public piano. Since y'all liked last week's Rocket Man so much, I recorded another.

We leave Valencia tomorrow. I don't know when I'll get myself in front of another piano.

Please accept this in its imperfect, unpolished glory.

Mad Man Moon from Valencia City of Arts & Sciences

Since you liked Firth of Fifth so much last week, we went back to the public piano and did another video. It's our last day here, unfortunately, but we're on to Krakow, Poland and Riga, Latvia for the next 5 weeks. If you know of any public pianos in those places, let me know!

DISCLAIMER: This is unrehearsed, unpracticed, and spur of the moment in a cavernous public place with tons of people walking around and lots of background noise. If you are looking for a polished studio recording, this ain't it. Enjoy it (or don't) warts and all!

It must have been another of your dreams...

Rocket Man - the obvious choice.

We stumbled upon this piano in the City of Arts and Sciences in València Spain. Is there a better choice than Rocket Man? I don't think so.

Firth of València

I found a public piano at the City of Arts and Sciences in València Spain, and I couldn't help myself.

UPDATE: Wow....I hoped some people would watch this video, but I didn't expect 7000+ views. Thank you all for your kind and complientary comments.

For those couple of people who lamented that the tempo wasn't perfect, I can't argue. Shit happens.
I walked up to this public piano and started playing. No warm-up, no click track, and to be honest I've barely even played in about 2 months. I was playing Rocket Man (ya know, because it's a science museum), and I realized that I was already in Bb, so why not break out Firth of Fifth. It was all pretty impulsive.

I'm glad most of you were able to enjoy it, despite the rough state of the production. If we're over there again, and the opportunity presents itself, I'll roll the camera again for another imperfect Genesis recording.

Oh, I sometimes stream on Twitch, @ ProgRockPianoBar and pics and videos from our travels on Instagram @ kendysadventures
