I've been seeing a girl for a bit now and was over at her place when her roommate came home. They spoke so tenderly and familiarly with each other, casually calling each other "babe" and "love". They both were a bit hungry so they pulled out some brie and started handing each other and myself little slices with fig-and-orange jam on it. Then they pulled out four (exactly four) dolmas, and then a bag of cherries, and it became this little feast of small foods. I don't think I've had a snack that was that nice since I was a kid. The roommate laughed and said to me "I love that we're just having mouse hour right now."
I know their friendship well, because I actually knew the roommate first (it's how I met the woman I'm seeing) - they have their differences, are often envious and competitive and disapprove of each other's actions, but still they make time for these little moments of loveliness and whimsy. This is just what their life is like.
