My basic understanding is that a Medicaid unit is 30 minutes, and if you have a 60 minute session, it can only be billed as one unit because it was one session. I have never worked with Medicaid, but I will be soon.

I know someone who fudges this by doing a 60 minute session, and billing it as one unit for that session plus bills another unit on a separate day (on which they did not see the child) in order to cover the entire session. They say 30 minutes isn’t time, so that’s how they get around it.

This feels like insurance fraud, and something for which you would lose your C’s and license. Am I just being rigid?
