Looking for onirical, melancholic fantasy books like The NeverEnding Story. Especially with surreal/liminal locations, symbolic worlds, psychological or spiritual journeys, and themes of identity, emotional emptiness, transformation, and losing/finding yourself again.

Hi everyone, I would like to ask for help finding books with the same dreamy, mythic, melancholic vibe as The NeverEnding Story.
What I loved most was the atmosphere: surreal places like the Colored Sand Desert and the Southern Oracle/Sphinxes area — locations that feel lonely, symbolic, dreamlike, and emotionally charged. I’m especially looking for fantasy where the world reflects the character’s inner journey.
Themes/vibes I’m looking for:
Preferably little to no romance, or romance that stays secondary (though feel free to recommend something anyway if it really fits).
