Is A.I. actually thinking? I know that people call it "machine learning" but I dont know if thats just an algorithm AI uses or something precisely integral to AI itself. I suppose I should clarify:
When I ask 'thinking' I mean to ask is AI forming *new* thoughts from which it's own databases (sources?) happen to not have--that being, something entirely novel it 'made' itself based on some understanding of what is accurate and useful, or true?
The prior is what I am most uncertain about however, I believe this to be true, (please correct me if need be) AI takes (recalls? produces?) information from its sources and returns it when called upon to either recite or respond; be it a language model or otherwise.

I suppose a TLDR is "does AI happen to think, or mimic? how do we know this?"
thank you
