Beginner for e-reader

Hello everyone,

Let me preface this by saying I know nothing.

I have decent art skills and no computing skills at all. I just find cyberdecks cool and I would like to make one over the summer.

I would like it to be able to read files (such as ebooks from Project Gutenberg, but also pdf files, also have an option to pick up where I left it, feature basic functions like ctrl + F, copy and paste, etc...) and also maybe have a little app for note taking. Basically I want to use it to read academic articles and ebooks. Like a glorified kindle I suppose.

No need for speakers or a camera.

I've looked up YouTube tutorials but so many of these people are making things that I personally find mind-blowing and have programming skills which are far beyond my understanding.

I don't even know which raspberry pi I should use. Is this doable for someone who doesn't know how to code?

Is there some manner of tutorial available online?

Are there premade apps available and operating systems you'd recommend? Are they like bigger computers, do I need a fan for it or can I make a simpler case?

All I want for Christmas is my own homemade Gothic e-reader.

Thanks.
