My 8yo son (right dominant) has a real interest in switch hitting this season. He switches sides depending on the throwing hand of the pitcher he's up against, so he's getting way more reps swinging left since he started batting both sides. Surprisingly enough, he does fine on either side of the plate, and seems to either make contact or draw a walk much more often than striking out. So far I've taken the approach of letting him play how he wants since he clearly enjoys it, and it doesn't seem to bother his coach (probably because he's getting on base a reasonable amount) but are there reasons to encourage him to pick a side?
