Looking for a full-colour YA graphic novel I read around 2010–2012 in a primary school library in Bankstown, Australia. It read left-to-right, not manga right-to-left, but the art style felt modern and manga-influenced. The protagonist was a boy who wore glasses. It was set in a modern city/suburban environment and felt more mature than typical primary school books.

Specific scenes/details I remember: the protagonist gets a “moon moth” tattoo on his back. There is a shot where he is shirtless, facing the reader, holding up/opening a window while someone tattoos the moon moth on his back. There is a line about “godawful French cigarettes.” I also remember ice cream being mentioned. A magical weapon/drill called “the Heartbreaker” was used to pierce someone’s heart.

It was probably a standalone/one-volume graphic novel, full colour, published before 2012. It is not Amulet, The Dreaming, or Jack Vance’s The Moon Moth.
