Amazon background check confusion after offer — should I travel based on recruiter confirmation
I’m currently working in the US with around 3 years of experience, plus 1 year of internship experience in India before coming here. I decided to move back to India and applied for an SDE2 role at AWS India and got the offer about 2 months ago.
Now the stressful part is the background check. I submitted everything they asked for, but the process took forever. My original joining date was end of April, but the background check was still pending at that time. I told the recruiter I couldn’t relocate back to India unless the background check was complete, so they postponed my joining by a month.
What’s confusing is:
• They never contacted my current employer
• They asked for my UAN number for my India internship, but it was an unpaid internship so I never had payroll/UAN
• The background check portal kept showing “pending” till end of April, but now I lost access to the portal because my original start date passed
Now the recruiter says their internal portal shows the background check as complete and is asking me to travel to India and join.
My concern is whether there can still be any additional verification after I travel and join. Can I trust the recruiter’s word that the background check is fully cleared?
The only thing I’m worried about is that internship in India since I don’t have payroll records. I do have someone from the company who can verify that I worked there.
Would you travel based on the recruiter’s confirmation, or wait for something official in writing?
