Broken tooth after meeting a friend?
Hello!
I have a male guinea pig (Spur, right) who is almost 1 year old. He has lived alone since we got him in August. My kids (8 and 6) adore him and play with him all the time.
We were worried about him being lonely, so today we got him a brother! (Rusty, left, 2 months old). We introduced them around 3pm today. They sniffed each other, did some curious squeaking, but didn't fight at all. Rusty wanted to cuddle, Spur didn't care and kinda ignored him.
We kept them in separate cages, their only time together was supervised and brief.
8pm tonight we noticed that Spur was missing a top front tooth. We found the tooth in his cage. He tried to chew some celery, but couldn't really take a bite. We offered kale and he seemed to be able to eat that just fine.
BUT!!
As he was chewing the kale, his other top front tooth fell out! His mouth looks a little red, but is not actively bleeding. The teeth appear to be kinda broken, but we don't see any jagged edges in his gums. His mood has been normal. He doesn't appear to be in pain.
Could the new guinea pig have stressed Spur out so much that both of his top teeth fell out?? Or is it just a coincidence? To my knowledge, there has been no trauma, no dropping, no fighting.
