Am I being unreasonable about this creator streaming rate?
I’m a beginner creator/freelancer and recently discussed a long-term collaboration with a client from Europe.
The work would involve:
- 1 livestream per week (30 min–1 hour)
- ongoing consistency/availability
- preparation/reading beforehand
- some subtitling/content-related help
- potentially helping grow a channel long term
I asked for 20k INR/month (~$230 USD), and the client responded by comparing it to average Indian salaries and hourly wages. He estimated the work as only 4–5 hours/week and said 20k INR wasn’t really “according to Indian standards.”
His proposed calculation came closer to around 6k INR/month.
What bothered me wasn’t even just the amount, but the framing — like my expectation was irrational or unrealistic instead of simply outside his budget.
I completely understand if a project can’t afford a certain rate, especially for a beginner creator. But I also feel livestreaming/creator work includes more than just the exact minutes spent live:
- prep
- communication
- scheduling
- consistency
- on-camera energy
- reliability
So I wanted honest opinions from other creators/freelancers:
- Does 20k INR/month sound unreasonable for this kind of recurring creator work?
- How do you personally price livestream/content collaboration work?
- Do clients often use “average salary in your country” as negotiation leverage?
Genuinely looking for perspective from other freelancers/streamers/UGC content creators.
