I wanted to ask here since many of you are experienced riders and a lot of us are running DT Swiss rims, so this group fits best then regular velo with a bunch of freds.
I’ve got this strange feeling that ever since I switched to 30 mm GP5000 tires, I’ve lost some confidence when descending, especially in cornering at higher speeds (50 km/h+ in the mountains).
My rims have a 21 mm internal width. According to DT Swiss specs, they can handle up to 30 mm tires, so in theory, everything should be fine. Still, something feels off.
Today I swapped the front tire back to my old P Zero (28 mm, and they usually come up a bit narrower than GP5000 anyway). I did a few descents, and suddenly I was matching my PRs from March, when I was running the Pirelli setup.
I know this could just be in my head, but I’m curious, has anyone else experienced reduced confidence in cornering after switching to wider tires like 30 or 32 mm on similar rims? I'm aware it should be the opposite according to physics. But yet the tire makes a bubble on quite a narrow rim, and that might be the case.
I'm aware of the correct pressure, using 65PSI with TPU on 30, and 70 max on 28.
