How safe are index funds like Kernel Wealth?

I’ve recently sold a rental property that was my first home (held for 25 ish years), and I’m contemplating how best to invest that money for retirement. We’re in our mid 50s and still have a small mortgage on our owner occupied home. We’re both still employed.

I’m looking at putting the house sale proceeds into a few different index funds, and like the look of Kernel Global 100, Emerging Markets, Global Infrastructure etc.

I’m old enough to have terrible memories of finance company collapses like Bridgecorp and Hanover Finance. I know the FMA has come along since then and regulated to make things safer.

I’m not an expert on any of this stuff, and just want to hear from people who live and breathe finance and investments. In saying that, I do understand the concept of conservative - aggressive funds, and the dips that can affect funds at the riskier end eg. Covid.
