How did you network?

Hey everyone I’m currently in the process of designing a 1st person tactical horror game and still getting all the bones in place to actually start developing. I don’t necessarily have a whole lot of experience developing games and know for this project I will definitely need a team eventually. My question was, when you guys first started making your games how did you find your team? Do they live in another state, are they close friends? As much as I would like to have my gaming friends help out they are more intrested in playing the games and not making them.
