Android version of Deal Dish is ready — looking for Canadian beta testers

Hi everyone,

Quick follow-up to my earlier post about Deal Dish.

The Android version is now ready for beta testing, and I’m looking for people with different Android devices to help test it before the full Google Play release.

Deal Dish is the Canadian grocery app I’ve been building that lets you select your grocery store and location, then browse recipes based on that store’s current weekly flyer deals. You can plan your meals and add everything you need to an organized shopping list.

Google Play requires at least 12 testers to stay opted into the closed beta for 14 consecutive days before I can move toward the public release, so I’d really appreciate anyone willing to help test it.

You can join the Android beta here:

And here’s the Google Play listing:

I’m especially looking for a mix of different Android phones so I can catch any device-specific bugs, layout issues or performance problems before launch.

If you try it, any feedback is helpful, whether something is broken, confusing, slow or there’s just something you think could be better.

Thanks again to everyone who gave feedback on my original post. A lot of the changes I’ve been making have come directly from your suggestions, and I really appreciate all the support.

EDIT: Android beta access

Google Play closed testing requires me to manually add your Google Play email before you can download the beta.

If you want to test Deal Dish on Android, please DM me the email address you use for Google Play and I’ll add you to the testing list.

If you’d rather not DM first, just comment “I’m interested” and I’ll message you directly.

Once your email has been added, you’ll be able to use the beta link and download the app.

A few recipes I built around this week’s grocery deals

I’ve been working on some new recipes in Deal Dish using ingredients that are on sale at different grocery stores this week.

A few of this week’s recipes:

  • Bacon and aged cheddar stovetop mac
  • Chicken and cheese quesadillas
  • Ginger-garlic egg fried rice
  • Cheesy refried bean tacos

The prices and savings vary depending on the store, but the idea is to take products already featured in the weekly flyers and turn them into complete meal ideas.

The cheesy refried bean tacos had some of the strongest savings this week, while the fried rice is probably the easiest option for using up ingredients already sitting in the fridge/freezer.

Which one would you make?

I built a Canadian app that turns weekly grocery deals into recipes — looking for honest feedback

Hi everyone! I’m a Canadian solo developer, and I’ve been building an app called Deal Dish to make planning meals around grocery sales a little easier.

You select the grocery store and location you shop at, then the app lets you browse recipes built around that store’s current weekly flyer deals. From there, you can choose your meals and add the ingredients to an organized shopping list.

Deal Dish now supports more than 2,500 grocery store locations across Canada, including No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, Loblaws, Maxi, Sobeys, FreshCo, Food Basics, Metro, Safeway and more.

It’s currently available to download on the Canadian App Store for iPhone and iPad, and I’m working on the Android version as quickly as I can.

I built it independently because I was tired of seeing grocery-saving tools that showed deals but still left you wondering what to cook with them. I’d really appreciate honest feedback from other Canadians—especially about what would make it genuinely useful for your weekly grocery routine.

You can search “Deal Dish” on the App Store or visit dealdish.ca.

Full disclosure: I’m the developer. The app is free to download, with both free and optional Pro features.

Edit: Android beta testers needed

The Android version of Deal Dish is now ready for testing! I’m looking for people with different Android phones to help test it before it goes live on Google Play.

Google Play requires at least 12 testers to stay opted into the beta for 14 consecutive days before the app can move toward public release. If you’re interested, send me a DM with the Google account email you use for the Play Store, along with your phone’s make and model, and I’ll email you an invitation.

Any feedback on bugs, performance or the overall experience would be a huge help. Thanks to everyone who has supported the app so far!
