Help with forcing basal break/basal cane growth.

Hello. I’m attempting to force a basal break/basal cane growth on my Eden climber rose. I live in zone 6. Short bloom season. Figured I’d sacrifice a season to focus on cane growth in order to enjoy the blooms the following season. I used the crunch & bend method on my Eden’s canes. My questions are:

  1. Should I remove all of the node growth near the tops of my bent canes & stems? How do I identify node growth I should keep?

  2. How do I identify which node grow will become a basal cane? Google says all basals come directly from the base or below soil line, but I know that’s not always true. My Earth Angel rose produces basal canes around 6 inches from the base on older cut basals.

I’ve attached images of both my Eden rose where I’m pointing to new growth near the base on a cane & of my Earth Angel rose showing where the basal canes are growing on other basal canes. Any tips or advice is most welcome. The info I’ve found online is quite confusing to me. Thanks!
