Australia dental school (as a Canadian)
Yeah, from the title you can probably tell I’ve been seriously considering Australian dental schools after this Canadian cycle didn’t work out for me (also completely bombed Casper lol). My stats are 3.75 cGPA, 20 AA, 19 RC, and 20 PAT.
At this point, Canadian dental schools honestly feel pretty out of reach with my stats. I could maybe try applying to Schulich/UWO again if I can improve my Casper next cycle.
The thing is, Australian dental school decisions don’t come out until around Sept/Oct. If I do get in, should I just go for it? Or is transferring back to a Canadian dental school after first year actually realistic at all? I’ve heard mixed things online.
Also, one thing I’ve been wondering about is specialization later on. If I graduate from an Australian dental school and want to come back to Canada for specialties like ortho, perio, prostho, etc., would I be at a disadvantage compared to people who graduated from Canadian dental schools? Or is it more based on grades/class rank/research/references once you’re in dental school?
I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from people who went abroad for dentistry or were in a similar situation.
