My latest one; I had a couple in between my last post and this one but I wasn’t proud enough to post them. I tried keeping it simple and traditional with some leftover black walnut I had. When I first found the stone I swore it could have been a fossil, heck I’m still not convinced it isn’t. But I’m no paleontologist, or geologist for that matter.
Anyway, I named it “Age” because my imagination runs wild when i consider the stone’s history in this world; evidently it has been a long one.
Also, THANK YOU the other (way more talented) members and contributors in this sub for being welcoming to newcomers such as myself. It’s helped me in more ways than anyone can know, Suiseki combines my two favorite hobbies, rockhounding and woodworking and I can’t believe it took me till this point in my life to learn about it. But hey- life gets better with “Age” in my experience.
My second piece. Spent a lot more time on the diaza (if it counts as one) this go-round; hopefully you can tell lol.
Some kind of eroded, banded, river stone I haven’t been able to properly identify; maybe it’s some sort of gneiss? The base is oak with a dark cherry stain.
Been a lurker since I discovered Suiseki and decided to do post my first attempt. Apologies if this missed the mark in any way, please be gentle. Thought about naming it “Ponderosa in Flames” based on where I’ve sourced my materials and some personal history with the land.
