White-washing and ‘Lilo & Stitch 2’? Critics of the first Live Action being directed by a white guy-- are you / why are you okay with Chris Sanders who is white making a follow-up?
think the title explains itself, and I'm really not trying to start anything incendiary with this. I'm just curious: given how huge the live-action was last summer, and how it will likely be even bigger for this sequel, will this get the same flak as the OG live-action for having a white creator? I remember seeing how much backlash the white director of the live-action Lilo & Stitch got for not being Hawaiian. Pretty much, he got reamed on here and attacked on IG for being white and took a hit / a lot of the responsibility for changes made to the script, even though the writer, Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, is Hawaiian. Now the og creator of the series (Chris Sanders) has written and will be directing the follow-up sequel. I was so curious about the conversations around why it was inappropriate for the live-action Lilo & Stitch director to direct the movie/ how his taking the job was colonial. I know Sanders created the og work but different time, different era? What's different now Will he get the same treatment and if yes or no why?
