What are good area community-based options to help a 15 and a 13 year old to connect socially?
We recently moved into the Fairmount area, and the kids have some neighborhood friends, but both have expressed an interest in making more connections. However, as is age-typical, they are resistant to trying new things.
They are both homeschooled -the public schools where we are from were trash, and they both want to stick with it so as not to have to try public school so late in the game. Despite being homeschooled, they are well-socialized and blend well with same-age peers. This does eliminate school-based sports, clubs, and activities though.
To ask them, they just want to meet new people to game with online. As for me, I think they'd benefit from a little bit of time out of the house and old fashioned face-to-face interaction as well.
They aren't into sports, but also aren't afraid of the outdoors. My 15 year old has interests in archery, guns, hunting, and fishing (all things I am very little help with). My 13 year old is into more niche geeky things. Both of them are into PC gaming.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Especially scenarios where it would be easy for them to check it out in a non-committal way through a website or FB page or something.
(Side-note: my 15 year old would be glad for a job instead if there's anywhere that reliably hires 15 year olds)
