Protect your ears

Gen X here. No one told us. I’ve been to hundreds of shows and up until seeing Rush last week, have not worn ear protection. My tinnitus has grown to very high levels, along with some pressure in my ear and discomfort with loud noises, that I went for a hearing test. My results show moderate to severe hearing loss.

Get yourself the best quality you can afford and wear them. Even if you’re mowing the lawn or in a loud crowded place. I’m looking at between 3-7k for hearing aids and I’m “only” 57.

They sold me on the foil and I’m glad I went for it. Photo doesn’t do it justice. When the light hits it a certain way, it picks up the gold reflect and against the teal is just so cool. This one of Alex and Geddy warms my heart. It would be awesome to pick something up with Anika and Loren also. I love this Rush revival we get to experience.

Nature has a funny way of showing up

These volunteers arrived and I was intrigued. They are Polypremum procumbens, aka Rustweed. The irony is they are growing right next to Corten steel raised beds. I think they’re amazing!

A few words of caution

I planted 3 areas each with one 3.5” pot to see what would happen with Frogfruit. This is one season and no additional water. I say plant with extreme caution, unless you have some acreage, or will contain it in a raised bed or container. It was choking out everything and it roots as it spreads.

I feel bad because the bees love it and it’s a nice groundcover. But it’s very, very aggressive so be sure you have the space. I thought I could just cut it back. This was cut back 3x in less than two months.

Late July garden

Not all exclusively native, hope that’s ok. Definitely xeric! Trees are Chitalpa and Mesquite. Sedges are doing fantastic and I’ll def be adding more. The wildflowers are fading and I’ve noticed the birds foraging there where they didn’t use to. I do keep a feeder up so it’s nice to see. Pup is my granddog, I’ve had him all month while the kids and babes are in Japan. 🥰
