American Jews would serve in WWI at nearly double their share of the population in spite of open discrimination, with many being denied the honors they earned.
Most notable was William Shemin, who ran into open fire three times to drag wounded comrades to safety, but was denied the Medal of Honor due to antisemitism, which would be rectified by President Obama nearly a century later.
