New to Tyler, Where Are the Best Local Spots?

Hey everyone! I’m 25(m) and will be starting at UT Tyler this fall in the IT/Cybersecurity program. I’m a Marine Corps veteran moving to Tyler from about an hour away, and I spent several years living in Japan while I was in the military.
Since I’ll be new to the area, I’d love to hear any recommendations you have. Good restaurants, coffee shops, shooting ranges, car meets, places to hike, or just things to do around Tyler. I’m also a big fan of rock, alternative, grunge, and classic rock, so if there are any good venues or places with live music, I’d love to hear about those too.
Also, if there’s anything you wish you knew before starting at UT Tyler, I’d appreciate the advice.

Friends are welcome 🫡

Thanks in advance!

Apartment Recommendations

Hey everyone! I’m 25, starting at UT Tyler this fall for IT/Cybersecurity. I will be a freshman I currently live about an hour away, so I’ll be moving to Tyler before classes start.
I’m mainly looking for:
Safe area
Around $900–$1,200/month
In-unit washer/dryer
Fairly quiet (not a huge party scene)
Close to campus would be a plus
I’ve looked at Deerwood and a few others, but I’d love to hear from people who actually live there or have recommendations (or places to avoid).
Thanks in advance!
