Should I transition from consulting to state gov? Advice needed

Hello everyone! I’m currently working as an environmental scientist at Arcadis (I did just get promoted to scientist II) I do primarily fieldwork doing wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species work, and writing wetland reports with a tad bit of permitting experience. Here is the thing - I got a job offer at the NYC DOT being an environmental specialist 1. Seems like a lot of NEPA/SEQR work and will be fully in office. I wanted less fieldwork, but not sure I want to be in office full-time. I really am interested in moving to NYC, but the gov pay is toughhhhhh, not as good as my current consulting job. The only way this would be worth it for me is if this experience would be really good on my resume and make me a better candidate/get more experience. Any one have any advice on whether to take this position or not??

Need some advice

I just got a job offer in Long Island City that pays $66k/yr. I currently make 72k in Pittsburgh, but I have been looking to move to NYC.

Long story short, I didn’t expect the pay to be less at this job, but it’s for the gov so 🤷‍♂️

Should I pass on the pay cut or take it. Not sure how doable that salary is. Advice would be great on if it’s worth it/where to live! Thanks!
