Widest toe box?

I'd like to make the switch to Brooks but am not sure where to start. I wear a 15 4E so anything I try will have to be mail order and the back and forth through the mail and buying multiple pairs is always a bummer.

I have had toe issues in the past and really like a spacious toe box. What pair or two would you recommend with a wide toe box?

Thanks!

Fret question

I love reading Eric's take on gear. In a recent guitarworld interview he talked about getting larger frets installed on all new (to him) guitars.

Does anyone know the size he uses on his gigging guitars? I don't know how accurate the signature guitars are to what he plays live since Fender installs the finish over the frets and this mitigates a good chunk of the fret height. On a recent refret I had done, the finish was almost .010 thick, so even a jumbo fret would be down to .045".

Anyone know what Eric actually plays day in and out?

Thanks!

Is RAM brand or spec-specific?

My oldest has a gaming computer that has 16GB (1 pc) of DDR5 RAM. He wants to upgrade and I'd like to buy it for him as a surprise.

Is this brand specific? Do I need to match what he already has, or can I just purchase another stick(?)/pc of RAM for him?

I'd like to get it right and combine being a hero and not frustrating because teens are....well...teens .

Thanks!

Where do you watch the current tournament?

This is the first season I've really followed jeopardy and have loved it. I'm a couple of episodes behind. When the season ended, ken said something to the effect of a couple of tournaments owuld be on while they were on break. They aren't recording and I can't find them for the life of me.

Where do you find the current Jeopardy tournaments?

Thanks!

Which GPU to play 27" 1440 at 144hz? I'm new....

I would like to try iracing but am starting from scratch without a gaming pc, etc... Trying to understand the specs is pretty confusing.

I have a 27" 1440 144Hz monitor that a friend gave me. I know plenty have triples, etc... but I have to start somewhere.

If I want to run dirt oval races with high quality graphics settings, what GPU should I be looking at to sustain 144hz refresh rate? Is the 5060 enough or overkill? I'm lost. I've never played a game in my life, so this is pretty confusing.

How busy is dirt oval racing?

I'm thinking about trying iracing but my main interest is in dirt oval racing - anything from late models, street stock to midgets, etc...

How often do these races go throughout the day (usa)?

Thanks!

Besides Warmoth - do any neck manufacturers finish necks?

I would like to replace a neck on a stratocaster and am struggling to find the specs that I want off the shelf. I really like a few Fender shapes, but with the finish over the frets on a maple neck (I'm allergic to rosewood) being so thick, it is hard to get the fret height I want. I like Warmoth, but they don't have a shape I love. I thought about Musikraft, but they don't finish necks in a hard finish (nitro, urethane, etc...)

Are there any custom neck manufacturers that build and finish necks that I should check out?

Thanks!

Lost on what computer to purchase

I don't game at all. I'm not doing anything AI. No intense calculations, etc... I watch youtube, read the news and do some browsing online. Occasionally I play around with a DAW, but never more than 2-3 tracks just goofing off. My computing needs are minimal, but my 12 year old Dell tower is on its last legs and frankly, I've hated the computer for a decade. Price is not an issue.

The old Dell has a proprietary power supply that is so loud it has driven me bonkers for years. I cant wait for it to go.

I would prefer to go either with a brand that has some customer service or a custom built with a company that has the same. I don't want to purchase one of the off brand Amazon mini's.

In order of my priorities -

Silent operation. Smaller form factor. The smaller the better but not at the expense of noise. Windows. I would like to be able to continue using my older 1440p monitor since it fits into my space. I tried using my kids mac mini, but it looked terrible into the 1440p monitor and I'm not interested in going down a monitor rabbit hole. No proprietary parts. I'd like to be able to put in Noctua fans, or replace a noisy part, etc... in the future. Upgradeable. I like being able to add RAM, or a 2nd M2 SSD, etc... if my needs change. I'm completely lost.

Any help would be appreciated. I've hit analysis paralysis and don't know what I am looking at.

24" 4k monitor?

Is anyone using a 24" 4k external monitor? I would prefer not to spend the extra money on a 5k monitor for my first mac project, but am thinking about trying to find a 24" 4k to get a little higher PPI than a standard 27" 4k monitor.

Curious if anyone has gone down that path and if you found it worthwhile? I think it would be 184 vs 163ppi - though I don't know if that is noticeable to my eye while working on text intensive documents, etc...

Thanks!

Portable mast recommendation

I'd like to buy a portable mast for my kid, who recently upgraded, but I've never had one before and the choices seem endless. I think the maximum height needed will be roughly 21' (20m with elevated radials). Being strong and stout is appreciated instead of some of the quite "floppy" masts I've seen on youtube videos, etc...

Do any of the masts have a tripod for stability in lieu of guying? The lan is to use it for the backyard doing some summer antenna experiments. I think he might use it here or there for a contest, but always experimenting with the backyard.

Thanks, I appreciate the reccomendations!

Do any of the major manufacturers NOT use proprietary parts/connections?

I'd like to replace my ancient Dell computer and over the years have been thwarted from upgrading a few parts (fan connections, power supply) by proprietary parts or connectors. I'd like to avoid that in the future and my needs are quite basic - it is just a home computer.

If I get an off the shelf model, are there any brands that won't limit upgrades in the future, even if it is something like a fan to cut down the noise, etc...?

Help with monitor selection

I am thoroughly confused about monitor selection for a mac mini. I'm coming from a world of Windows where my 27" 1440 monitor looks great with text. No issues with clarity or fuzziness. I tried hooking my kid's m2 iMac to my monitor and the text was really bad to look at. After some research, it seems that it is a PPI issue with how Apple displays text.

I've been reading to the point that I am paralyzed. I'd like to buy the mini, it's small, silent and has enough ports, but I spend 6+ hours a day looking at text on the screen and want it to look good. I'd also like it to be able to get larger - When I am tired at the end of the day, I often make everything go to +110% or higher to take some eye strain off.

I can't go larger than 27" and I need a matte display. I've never used a glossy display and not had issues with headaches, presumably from the reflections. Is 4k good enough or do I really need to spring for 5k? If clarity were similar, I'd rather have 4k 144 refresh than 5k 60hz....I think.

I'd love some recommendations. I am thoroughly stumped at understanding the issue since it has never been an issue with Windows.

Thanks!

Lion routing question

I am experimenting with the Lion and it's also my first time using anything in stereo. I have all my compression and dirt before the Lion and after I have a Keeley Hydra going into a Halo. The Hydra and Halo are both using stereo outs and the Halo goes to my monitors.

Is there anything to be gained using the stereo outs of the Lion into the Hydra? I've been going mono and since the cabs are the same. Would there be any benefit to using both outputs of the Lion into the Hydra?

Thanks!

Is signature required with a computer purchase?

I can't seem to get an answer from Dell. I live about an hour from a fedex or ups location and can't afford to take a day off of work to wait around for the truck. Curious, for those that ordered recently, is a signature required and could you presign online?

Has anyone used the Dell mini pc (link in post)?

https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/desktop-computers/dell-pro-micro-desktop/spd/dell-pro-qcm1250-micro

I'm thinking about getting one of these. I'm not very technical, but I appreciate that I might have better results if there is a problem compared to one of the companies selling on Amazon.

I don't do anything but work in a browser, forums, youtube, etc... no gaming, no AI, etc...

Any idea how the fan noise/working volume is with these? I have a 10 year old Dell tower that has the noisiest power supply ever and it has been driving me crazy for a decade. Silence would be golden and has become a top priority.

Price isn't an issue, but silence and reliability are.

Thanks!

[Suggestion] I am lost on a home pc for a non gamer. Prefer quiet and small.....

I'd like to be able to put in Noctua fans, or replace a noisy part, etc... in the future. Upgradeable. I like being able to add RAM, or a 2nd M2 SSD, etc... if my needs change. Finally - a brand I have heard of or a company that will stand behind the pc. I'm a little hesitant to put my personal info, banking, etc... on one of the Chinese mini pc's when I keep reading that they should have Windows reinstalled, etc...

I'm completely lost.

Any help would be appreciated. I've hit analysis paralysis and don't know what I am looking at.

Edit to add -I would consider a laptop hooked into my monitor if that helped things be silent.

Alpha Delta switch question re: SWR

I have been planning to order an Alpha Delta Switch to put outside where the coax enters my house. I was looking at images online and there is a warning sticker on the back of the switch about not using if the SWR exceeds 2-1 at the antenna feedpoint.

I'm planning to experiment with random wire's, rybakov's, etc... and will require a tuner. Are there any switches that can easily handle these antennas and not have an issue? I don't want to have to go outside and unscrew the arc protector or replace the switch, because I wanted to use a random length of wire.

I'm only planning to run 100watts, but might as well purchase the best product for my usage.

Here is a link - not my site - that shows the picture. https://www.radioworld.co.uk/second-hand-alpha-delta-4b-4-way-coax-switch

Help understanding EFHW connections

I am thinking about an EFHW and am confused about the connections and strain relief, tightening the slack out of the wire, etc.... I can go from the corner of my garage, which is at about 30', and slope it to a galvanized pole in the ground that's about 70' away. I am planning a 66' efhw with a 49:1 unun.

If I mount the unun on the post and feed coax there, the ring terminal surely can't take the strain of the wire. On the garage side, I plan to just use a rope attached to an insulator for the non feed side, and hope the wire through the insulator will hold.

What's the best method for these attachments and to keep things taught? I've never made anything out of a wire, but am excited to give it a go. I know this is pretty rookie level stuff, but I am lost.

Thanks!
