De Zerbi's Dream

Watching the last press conference after the Everton game and the club interview with De Zerbi at the end of the season, a couple of quotes caught me eye

> “But my target now is finished - to stay up),my target is to start the pre-season with the team I have in my dream, my head"

> “ Because we have no time. We have to organise the next season. We have to build a stronger team”

> "I'm looking forward to build the new team, I'm looking forward to call these players, to speak with them, to introduce the new season, and to speak with the new players we have to go to bring“

Our previous coaches, for all their faults, all worked within serious constraints. Levy always had the final say, we always had a budget ceiling for transfers ( we probably still do but it's way higher now), there were always many cooks in the kitchen. I often wonder how different the future would have been if Poch/Ange/Mou/Conte had been able to buy the exact players they'd wanted for their systems. Whether or not their visions would have been successful is anyone's guess, but at least we would have known either way. Now we can only mourn what could have been, if say we didn't go 18 months without a signing. Some would say you need a structure that works, and a coach/manager will always fit into that structure. I say this is new territory that comes nig benefits - fulfilling the manager's vision.

Through a happy (Lewis family opening the cheque book) and unhappy (relegation fight/Lange's diminished power at the club) set of circumstances, this is the first Tottenham coach I've known that is having the privilege of bringing his vision to life, with near complete control over decisions relating to the first team. Whatever else happens from here on, we can always say this was De Zerbi's team, and that thought fills me with excitement! COYS!
