Hydrophobicity of Colocasia Esculenta💚

Aside from their ornamental beauty, incredible size, and edible nature, I find the hydrophobic nature of Colocasia Esculenta leaves one of the coolest things about them. This hydrophobicity helps the plant self-clean, prevent disease by keeping moisture from sitting on or penetrating the leaves, and aids in photosynthesis in the sense that leaves remaining dry ensures unobstructed gas exchange and optimal sunlight absorption. The hydrophobicity specific to Colocasia Esculenta has also been researched and informed new technological advances in waterproof materials, particularly for the military. Amazing plant💚

Root flare on dwarf Owari Satsuma

Hi all!

I have a dwarf Owari Satsuma mandarin, purchased last year. Was shipped and therefore a bit battered on arrival, looking like 5 sole leaves on a long thin twig. It has grown wonderfully, overwintered wonderfully, flowered wonderfully and set fruit this year, etc. (have had to cull a good amount of the fruit as it’s not self-aborting much at all).

I noticed that it seemed to be planted a little deep and wanted to try and expose the root flare. Should I keep going? I do see the trunk flaring out slightly now, which is where I stopped. I do feel some thicker, hard roots right below the soil line as it is now and if I were to expose more, I’d expose some of those roots.

Keep going? Stop where I’m at? Looking for some guidance.

Thanks a bunch for your help! 😊🍊
