Unbelievable
There seems to be two fundamental problems with suspect AI:
- once they are alerted, they know your **exact** location not just the approximate location (what room or general direction you are in). What's more is that this seems to continuously update. So even if you stop shooting and move to a different location, they still know exactly where you are. In the replays you will see them tracking you with their weapons through walls.
- the fact that the suspects are able to track through solid walls means that displacing doesn't reset the suspect's reaction time (i.e. they don't have to search their vision cone for you and transition their weapon to your new location). They will thus resume shooting the nanosecond they have LOS.
Mechanically speaking suspects don't have the same "physical" constraints as the player either:
- their weapons don't clip and cause them to come out of the aim and go into a high ready. This allows them to ignore obstacles like barriers and walls while the player has to negotiate them. Practically speaking they can shoot while hugging cover and taking corners faster.
- they can run. Not only that but they can shoot accurately on the move (sometimes through concealment) and transition to the aim at superhuman speed. If the player walks in the aim, the reticle bounces like crazy compared to suspects who will move much faster and have their accuracy affected not at all.
- shooting cancels other actions. Where as the the player has to be sure that they are secure before kicking doors, switching equipment, or interacting with the environment (e.g. collecting evidence). Suspects can skip the time (or have a shorter time out) it takes to perform an action. As seen in this video, the suspect kicks open the door but has no recovery time after the kick.
It's a shame that this game is unique for its gun play but the fun is ruined by a complete lack of play testing and balance when it comes to the bots. Success in a mission thus becomes a matter of luck as opposed to player skill or strategy. Hell even to some degree loadout doesn't matter if you're playing against NPCs with literal aimbot.
