Website for finding campingsites for car users / vanlife
Three months ago I started building Spot Rigg - a navigation tool for motorhomes, campervans, and 4WDs that matches spots to your actual vehicle dimensions instead of generic size categories.
What I got right:
The vehicle profile system. You input length, height, width, weight, ground clearance, and whether you have 4WD. Every spot has matching hard limits. The fit score is calculated, not estimated.
Allemannsretten integration. Norwegian right-to-roam legislation is baked in - not a disclaimer, actual compliance filtering.
Cell signal reports by carrier. Telenor, Telia, Ice - bar ratings per spot submitted by real users.
What I got wrong:
Building before the community existed. The app is technically solid but I have almost no spot data outside areas I've personally visited. That's the actual product - the database.
What I still need:
People who know their regions. If you camp in Scandinavia, Scotland, the Alps, or anywhere with serious terrain - your spot submissions with real dimension data are worth more than any feature I can build right now.
The app is free. No paywall. You can submit spots, flag bad data, and report cell coverage from anywhere.
If you've built something similar or tried to solve this problem a different way, I'd genuinely like to hear what you learned.
