I was teaching an axe skills course last week (felling and hewing) in Northern Finland. I also showed off one of my other axe skills!

I taught my first axe skills course last week. Second course is on next week. Some of my axe collection shown here being put to full use in Lapland. Students fell a tree and hew it into beams using only axes to shape the wood. Proud to be sharing my knowledge!

Question regarding tax for a Finnish company doing work in Ireland.

A am Irish, been living in Finland nearly 20 years and own and run a construction company in Finland. I normally do all my work in Finland.

I have been asked to make a small building, about 2 weeks of work, in Ireland this summer.

Would anyone have any idea as to where to VAT is payed and how is it charged?

The work has been ordered by a small company there. So can I just invoice the company with my Finnish company?

The Alvar Aalto conundrum.

He was one of Finland´s most famous designers, with his name on over 500 buildings during his career.
But most of these were built in a time when Finland had less than an adequate grasp of proper construction methods which has resulted in a large majority of these building being rife with mold and other problems. They never seem to get fixed properly, and I would imagine quite a lot of time, effort and money has been spent on them over the years.

Should the best buildings be kept and protected and fixed properly, and let the money pits and unfixables get replaced with the work of modern and upcoming Finnish architects?

Or protect the legacy and keep pumping money into fixing the buildings that will never be quite right?

A wee tax return problem!

Moro!
I got a message from Vero.fi today saying that the taxback I was due will not be paid back in August as agreed before. It said the tax decision is still pending(?) and I may hear back on the decision end of October at the latest.

In my 20 years here, this has never happened. Would anyone here up to date on tax stuff know of a reason why it has gone like this? It was a nice sum of money which was depended on, now I have no idea when or if I get it. Thanks!

I can try calling tomorrow also, but want to see if anyone here has had a similar issue.

Edit. I did not make any changes in my tax card at any point. The tax decision was made in March.
