Generally, the awareness of a blockbuster movie only exceeds 70 during its opening week. For example, the Super Mario Galaxy Movie achieved the awareness score of 71 only on its opening day:

As far as I recall, this might just be the film on The Quorum website to reach an awareness score of 70 faster than any other in history. I didn't check it carefully, but it's a near record level anyway. The film's other metrics—such as Interest—are relatively lower; while not poor, they can best be described as merely average. I believe this performance is entirely reasonable, as Disney has yet to fully demonstrate to audiences why seeing this film in theaters is an absolute must. However, the true trump card of Moana lies in its soundtrack; if Disney employs the right marketing strategy, there remains ample room for its Interest metric to climb even higher. After all, awareness serves as the foundational bedrock upon which all other metrics rest.

As others have noted, Moana LA is a wild card, I would be neither surprised by a complete box office flop nor by a resounding triumph. However, as things stand, the film appears to face no risk of catastrophic failure; even if it were rushed into theaters right now, it would at the very least manage to break even. If everything goes ideally, it even holds the potential to shatter the record of Beauty and the Beast.

As is well known, the current distribution window for Hollywood films is theatrical release, followed by VOD (Video on Demand), and then streaming. Both theatrical box office and streaming viewership have relatively public and comparable data, but PVOD (Premium Video on Demand) has consistently lacked this. The only available information consists of occasional announcements from certain studios stating, "Our movie XX made this much money on VOD," or platforms releasing data like their "Annual Top 10." However, these figures:

  1. Cover very few films;
  2. Lack absolute values;
  3. Cannot even be used for year-over-year comparisons.

They certainly have the specific sales volumes and revenue figures, but these are likely withheld from the public as "trade secrets." Therefore, I have been looking for a comparable metric that can reflect VOD sales.

Vudu (Fandango at Home) is a mainstream PVOD platform in the US. It features audience ratings, and users can only rate a movie after watching it. I believe the number of ratings can serve as an indicator reflecting a movie's VOD sales, at least on Vudu, although this metric also has several limitations:

  1. Tracks ratings, not sales: It can only capture the number of ratings rather than actual sales volume. Theoretically, the ratio of ratings to sales varies for every movie. Here, we tentatively assume that the ratio is similar for movies of the same genre for comparison purposes, but cross-genre comparisons cannot be made.
  2. Impact of ad-supported viewing: Many movies have offered a "watch for free with ads" option (for example, The Martian is currently available for free), which results in the ratings from these non-paying viewers being recorded as well. What is certain, however, is that Disney does not allow its own films to be viewed "free with ads"; viewers must pay to purchase or rent them. Therefore, the number of ratings for Disney animated films (including Pixar) will be compiled below.
  3. Price fluctuations: The price of a movie may vary over time. The initial release price is high, followed by later price drops and discounts. The number of ratings can only reflect cumulative sales volume and can hardly reflect actual sales revenue.

But even so, this is the most comparable indicator for VOD sales that I can currently find.

Anyway, here is the rating data for Disney and Pixar movie from 2010 to 2025:

As can be seen, there is a very clear dividing line in 2020 (between Onward and Soul). Before this point, the number of ratings for most movies could easily reach over 100,000, whereas afterward, not a single movie has exceeded 100,000 ratings. This is evidently because Disney+ has absorbed the vast majority of the online viewing demand. I prefer to call the period before this the "VOD (and physical disc) era," and the period after it the "streaming era." I have always been reluctant to directly compare films from the streaming era (such as Encanto or K-Pop: Demon Hunters) with those from the VOD era (such as Moana), as their operational models are not entirely the same.
