Poland picks Taiwan's Foxconn as partner for electric vehicle manufacturing hub
A Polish state-owned company, established in 2016 to build a national electric car (formerly Izera), has terminated its agreement with China's Geely and entered into cooperation with Taiwan's Foxconn. Taiwanese company pledged to share platform and technology, which was announced to be used to build three cars at the planned factory in Jaworzno. The first car was expected to enter production in 2029. The project is expected to receive approximately €1 billion in EU funding.
The project is quite controversial in Poland; the current liberal and pro-European government took it over from the previous, conservative and Eurosceptic one. Many doubt its success. Does Foxconn have any experience building cars? Is the topic more widely known in Taiwan?
