The LCR-018D paint job is finally done
So this job has a history. Yes, I know that painting frames yourself isn’t something sensible to do, nor is it economically feasible. I like challenging myself, let’s put it that way. Don’t try this at home.
The first attempt went fine initially, except I used airbrush paint for both the primer and the candy colour. That did not hold the abuse of gravel racing and the paint started chipping. I sanded the frame down and started all over.
For the second attempt, I used proper epoxy 2k primer, sanded it up, passed a 1k metallic silver and went again with the airbrush candy. It worked fine on the tests I did, but on the frame the candy didn’t hold and stained like crazy. Again, I sanded it down. Lessons have been learned.
The final attempt I used a candy concentrate with the 2k clear coat on top of the primer and metallic silver, let it harden for 48 hrs, sanded it lightly and hot rid of some mild orange peel, placed the gold decals, and ran a very thin clear coat layer. It finally looks good now.
Next is building it up again.
Decal details: main logo Lightcarbon, the head tube lion is my zodiac (I’m not into that stuff, but it looks nice), the shell is my Compostela, not the oil company. The crosses are Andreas crosses, the symbol of my home town.
Paint details: 2k epoxy primer, 1k metallic silver (both sourced locally), Mipa CS90 with Stardust Candy Cyan Blue 06 and a top layer of CS90 deluded up to 15%.
