Cutting worktop in the kitchen

Hi hive.

I'm cutting my 3.8cm laminate worktop tomorrow with a jig and my Makita 3600B router.

The jig reckons I do about 5 rough cuts where I pull the router towards me and then do the final cut where I push in for a finish.

Why can't I do the rough cuts to completely remove the piece and then at the very end run it over again to do the final cut? That would seem logical as there's less material on the final cut for the router. Or am I missing something?

Cutting laminate worktop

I'll be cutting my worktop with a Makita 3600B with a 12.7mm bit tomorrow. From what the jig says and vids I've seen, you cut the last pass of the piece pushing away from the body, so that the finish cut is smooth.

Why can't I do that lass pass as a rough cut and then do the finish cut as another pass? Wouldn't that be better because the bit has to eat less material? Or am I missing something?
