LASEK? Vision Correction?

Hello,

Will be in country (Ukraine) later this year and I am deliberating whether getting vision corrected would be worth it. I know the general cost and have a baseline understanding of what all the different abbreviations and procedures mean but I'm wondering what you all think.

Did any of you get your vision corrected before the medical check? Or did you just thug it out with contacts/glasses?

If you did get the procedure, how was it as a foreigner? Also how tf did you get home?

Edit: I appreciate all responses and experiences but I am mainly looking for those who specifically got the procedure done in Ukraine before enlisting as that is my intention.

Lifestyle questions

Hello,

On the initial intake forms for when you arrive and get processed, do they ask you a lot about lifestyle type questions? How much do they care about past drug use (psychedelics, alcohol).

Also, past mental health issues, do they ask about those sorts of things? I'd hate to put in a shit ton of effort, get there, and then get popped for some dumb shit that happened in my teens or years ago.

I have no criminal history, I recreationally experimented and did psychedelics as a teenager up until a few years ago when I just lost interest in it. Had some mental health problems in my teens, was hospitalized once, but never had any issues for years from that point forward.

Are these major disqualifiers?

How did/would you all approach the process? Maybe I'm just tweaking myself out and I'm misunderstanding the extent to which they actually give a shit about that sort of thing or the entire intake process in and of itself.

Understanding

Hello,

I'm not exactly sure how to frame my question and this will probably not be as elegant as I'd hoped, but I will do my best.

For those of you who are in Ukraine and fight, do those close to you understand? Do those in your unit who are not foreigners understand? Do your commanders understand? Does the average person in the rear city understand?

I have personally found great difficulty with trying to make my peace with people here at home before I leave. I have a flight in the coming months and the decision to go to Ukraine and fight has been one that I had been genuinely considering for a long time, and despite all effort, those who matter to me don't understand.

I suppose part of me is hoping that there are people there in Ukraine who understand where I am coming from and why I dropped everything in my life to do all I can to help. Because I have felt unbelievably crazy in the meantime speaking to my loved ones about my decision.

Is it the case that some people there genuinely understand? What are your guy's experiences with people understanding your personal and moral reasoning? What can be expected there as a foreigner?

Long term projections

I ask this question not to be annoying (and ask an impossible question), but because I genuinely value your guy's opinions and wonder what the overall sentiment is right now among current service members.

For those of you who are currently serving, or have recently served, how do you think the rest of this year is likely to go? Speculatively, how would 2027 look? Drawing from past precedent and seeing how things have panned out retrospectively, what stays the same and what is different?

With fighting that is bound to pickup as it warms up, what happens if the donbas region falls?

I appreciate you all and welcome your views and opinions.
