Balancing Part-Time Job with School Work (IBS Major)

I'm an incoming freshman for the ibs major so I'm taking a lot of the introductory classes like: econ 1102, eng 0802, math 1031, hrm 1101 + a gened which totals to 17 credits

I recently got this part time job in retail as a sales worker selling clothes and I start working in September. I said want to work 4-5 hours on weekends, and I cannot work on weekdays.

But my manager scheduled me to work 7 hours (12PM-7PM) on both Saturdays and Sundays for all of September to get used to the work.

They then followed up that I can get the 5 hour shifts for October, but I will probably need to work 7 hours again during weekends for November and December because that is when there are a lot of customers.

I haven't worked a part time job before so I don't even know if it is normal to automatically make me work this much.

If you guys can share your experience balancing part time and school work it would be super super helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Registering for Classes is Driving Me Crazy

I'm an incoming freshman so I don't really have anyone else to talk about this with but is anyone actually going nuts over how there is barely any classes on the main TUJ campus anymore??

For example I wanted to take an econ class required for my major and there were only TWO classes available on the main campus vs FOUR classes on the hillside campus?????/

I really don't want to commute to the hillside campus cuz its like an hour away from my house. I want to take classes on the main TUJ campus because its only 20 minutes away- but since the opening of the new hillside place it seems like every important class is getting sent over there.

The slots also fill up so fast for the main campus because everyone else prolly thinking of the same thing (I started registration since the day it opened).

I get that they need students to use the new campus but damn

Just wanted to rant cuz I'm getting frustrated.

any fun part time jobs?

I'm mass applying to a bunch of places and attending interviews with managers but I end up ghosting a lot of places even if I got an offer because I didn't like the work atmosphere or the manager's vibe.

Even though I'm using job hunting sites like indeed and townwork, some job postings were wildly different from reality..

I'm fortunate to be in a position where I don't really need to care about the salary because I'm a uni student that lives with their parents in Tokyo so I'm open to any suggestions.

Fun, easy going, no weird managers and an experience I wouldn't regret- are all the points I'm looking for.

Also I'm a Japanese national and speak Japanese conversationally.

Thanks!

uniqlo job interview

I'm a japanese national that just got admitted to uni in japan so I have a lot of time for myself until I start attending.

So basically I chose to apply to uniqlo as a floor staff and I got an interview but I'm super nervous because my keigo isn't good at all despite living in japan all my life.

Since I have a lot of time I'm gonna work 5 days a week 7 hours a day then maybe slow down when I start uni (but i wasnt sure if i should mention the second part during the interview)

I was wondering if there was anyone that has experience working at uniqlo and how hard passing the interview might be.

It's been a year since I had a part time job because I was too busy studying during my gap year to get into uni.

I know uniqlo will have some level of standards because just looking at the staff I know they only hire very well rounded people.

I'm so nervous about japanese interviews! Anyone please help me ease my anxiety or tell me about their experiences working in retail?

just got accepted to TUJ (with stats)

hi guys so i used this reddit community a lot to do my research for this school and look at other people's stats so i thought to contribute my own stats for future students to see :)

so i actually applied to TUJ for comp sci (and got in) in the fall of 2024 but i has to drop out in the first two weeks due to a family situation.

this year i applied for the fall of 2026 IBS (international business studies)

In high school my stats were:

GPA: 2.8 (my school does not do gpa so this is approx)

Submitted SAT: 1310

I did not talk about any extracurriculars from high school because i had more to talk about my gap year

I applied late April and got my results back in 21 days

Also this is just additional info but I got waitlisted to Keio and Waseda so I'm not committed yet

I hope this helps anyone like it helped me a few months ago!
